So they said, “This is blood! The kings have surely clashed swords and slain each other. Now, to the spoil, Moab!”
Now when all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their towns and fled. The Philistines then came and lived in them.
They stripped him and took his head and his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines proclaiming the good news to their idols and to the people.
When Jehoshaphat and his people went to take the plunder, they found an abundance of goods, clothing and precious articles, which they pillaged, more than they could carry away. For three days they were taking the plunder because there was so much.
It was the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
The Philistines took the ark of God and brought it to the temple of Dagon, and placed it beside Dagon.
