For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.
But when Herod's birthday was celebrated, the daughter of Herodias danced before the guests and pleased Herod.
Then Jesus said to them, “Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
Later they sent to him some of the Pharisees and the Herodians, to trap him in his speech.
Now the disciples had forgotten to bring bread, and they had nothing with them in the boat except for one loaf.
So they discussed this with one another, saying, “He must have said this because we have no bread.”
Then he said to them, “Watch out and be on your guard against covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
