And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in the barrel, and a little oil in the cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.


and say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.


For my sighing cometh before I eat, And my roarings are poured out like water


So that his life abhorreth bread, And his soul dainty meat.


Can that which hath no savour be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white of an egg?


Oh that I might have my request; And that God would grant me the thing that I long for.


For I have eaten ashes like bread, And mingled my drink with weeping.


Then said I, Ah Lord GOD behold, my soul hath not been polluted: for from my youth up even till now have I not eaten of that which dieth of itself, or is torn of beasts; neither came there abominable flesh into my mouth;


Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem: and they shall eat bread by weight, and with carefulness; and they shall drink water by measure, and with astonishment:


I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.
