And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.


I am for peace: But when I speak, they are for war.


But his citizens hated him, and sent an ambassage after him, saying, We will not that this man reign over us.


When thou drawest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.


And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:


And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwelt in the midst of Ephraim, unto this day, and became servants to do taskwork.
