“Now therefore, our God, the great and mighty and terrible God, who keepest covenant and steadfast love, let not all the hardship seem little to thee that has come upon us, upon our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers, and all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria until this day.


I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget thy law.


I am small and despised, yet I do not forget thy precepts.


Consider how I love thy precepts! Preserve my life according to thy steadfast love.


I will delight in thy statutes; I will not forget thy word.


I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant, for I do not forget thy commandments.


Thy commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me.


Consider how many are my foes, and with what violent hatred they hate me.


Be gracious to me, O Lord! Behold what I suffer from those who hate me, O thou who liftest me up from the gates of death,


My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments;


Look, O Lord, and see! With whom hast thou dealt thus? Should women eat their offspring, the children of their tender care? Should priest and prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?


Remember, O Lord, what has befallen us; behold, and see our disgrace!
