And when the king heard the words of the book of the law, he rent his clothes.

“Go, inquire of the Lord for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that has been found; for great is the wrath of the Lord that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the Lord, to do according to all that is written in this book.”


because your heart was penitent and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me, and have rent your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, says the Lord.


Therefore I am terrified at his presence; when I consider, I am in dread of him.


For I was in terror of calamity from God, and I could not have faced his majesty.


Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked, who forsake thy law.


Thy wrath has swept over me; thy dread assaults destroy me.


All these things my hand has made, and so all these things are mine, says the Lord. But this is the man to whom I will look, he that is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word.


Hear the word of the Lord, you who tremble at his word: “Your brethren who hate you and cast you out for my name's sake have said, ‘Let the Lord be glorified, that we may see your joy’; but it is they who shall be put to shame.


I hear, and my body trembles, my lips quiver at the sound; rottenness enters into my bones, my steps totter beneath me. I will quietly wait for the day of trouble to come upon people who invade us.


Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;


Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.”
