And Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw that the Jordan valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar; this was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.


Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the Lord.


And all these joined forces in the Valley of Siddim (that is, the Salt Sea).


When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield to you its strength; you shall be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth.”


O God, when thou didst go forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness, Selah


How long will the land mourn, and the grass of every field wither? For the wickedness of those who dwell in it the beasts and the birds are swept away, because men said, “He will not see our latter end.”


Your iniquities have turned these away, and your sins have kept good from you.


and say of the people of the land, Thus says the Lord God concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the land of Israel: They shall eat their bread with fearfulness, and drink water in dismay, because their land will be stripped of all it contains, on account of the violence of all those who dwell in it.


But its swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they are to be left for salt.
