now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them; but of you I will make a great nation.”


He cried aloud and said thus, ‘Hew down the tree and cut off its branches, strip off its leaves and scatter its fruit; let the beasts flee from under it and the birds from its branches.


“When you come into the land and plant all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as forbidden; three years it shall be forbidden to you, it must not be eaten.


I will command my blessing upon you in the sixth year, so that it will bring forth fruit for three years.


Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.


And he answered him, ‘Let it alone, sir, this year also, till I dig about it and put on manure.


Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.”


Every branch of mine that bears no fruit, he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.


If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned.
