The daughter of Dibon has gone up to the high places to weep; over Nebo and over Medeba Moab wails. On every head is baldness, every beard is shorn;


My heart cries out for Moab; his fugitives flee to Zoar, to Eglath-shelishiyah. For at the ascent of Luhith they go up weeping; on the road to Horonaim they raise a cry of destruction;


For a cry has gone round the land of Moab; the wailing reaches to Eglaim, the wailing reaches to Beer-elim.


Therefore I said: “Look away from me, let me weep bitter tears; do not labor to comfort me for the destruction of the daughter of my people.”


Let that man be like the cities which the Lord overthrew without pity; let him hear a cry in the morning and an alarm at noon,


“Thus says the Lord: Behold, waters are rising out of the north, and shall become an overflowing torrent; they shall overflow the land and all that fills it, the city and those who dwell in it. Men shall cry out, and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.


“Heshbon and Ele-aleh cry out; as far as Jahaz they utter their voice, from Zoar to Horonaim and Eglath-shelishiyah. For the waters of Nimrim also have become desolate.


Moab is destroyed; a cry is heard as far as Zoar.


For at the ascent of Luhith they go up weeping; for at the descent of Horonaim they have heard the cry of destruction.


“Hark! a cry from Babylon! The noise of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
