and carried off all the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king's house, and cut in pieces all the vessels of gold in the temple of the Lord, which Solomon king of Israel had made, as the Lord had foretold.


And he burned the house of the Lord, and the king's house and all the houses of Jerusalem; every great house he burned down.


May the creditor seize all that he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!


O God, the heathen have come into thy inheritance; they have defiled thy holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in ruins.


The houses of Jerusalem and the houses of the kings of Judah—all the houses upon whose roofs incense has been burned to all the host of heaven, and drink offerings have been poured out to other gods—shall be defiled like the place of Topheth.’ ”


Foreigners, the most terrible of the nations, will cut it down and leave it. On the mountains and in all the valleys its branches will fall, and its boughs will lie broken in all the watercourses of the land; and all the peoples of the earth will go from its shadow and leave it.
