On the willows there we hung up our lyres.


Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, the sound of your harps; maggots are the bed beneath you, and worms are your covering.


you who are full of shoutings, tumultuous city, exultant town? Your slain are not slain with the sword or dead in battle.


And he said: “You will no more exult, O oppressed virgin daughter of Sidon; arise, pass over to Cyprus, even there you will have no rest.”


“Take a harp, go about the city, O forgotten harlot! Make sweet melody, sing many songs, that you may be remembered.”


Is this your exultant city whose origin is from days of old, whose feet carried her to settle afar?


They have lyre and harp, timbrel and flute and wine at their feasts; but they do not regard the deeds of the Lord, or see the work of his hands.


For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will make to cease from this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.


Moreover, I will banish from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the grinding of the millstones and the light of the lamp.


And I will make to cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land shall become a waste.


You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, carnelian, topaz, and jasper, chrysolite, beryl, and onyx, sapphire, carbuncle, and emerald; and wrought in gold were your settings and your engravings. On the day that you were created they were prepared.


And I will put an end to all her mirth, her feasts, her new moons, her sabbaths, and all her appointed feasts.
