When a scoffer is punished, the simple becomes wise; when a wise man is instructed, he gains knowledge.


And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and never again do any such wickedness as this among you.


“If you hear in one of your cities, which the Lord your God gives you to dwell there,


And all the people shall hear, and fear, and not act presumptuously again.


The hand of the witnesses shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So you shall purge the evil from the midst of you.


Then all the men of the city shall stone him to death with stones; so you shall purge the evil from your midst; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.


As for those who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all, so that the rest may stand in fear.
