“You know that David my father could not build a house for the name of the Lord his God because of the warfare with which his enemies surrounded him, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.


“Do you know when the mountain goats bring forth? Do you observe the calving of the hinds?


Your sons have fainted, they lie at the head of every street like an antelope in a net; they are full of the wrath of the Lord, the rebuke of your God.


“However, you may slaughter and eat flesh within any of your towns, as much as you desire, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which he has given you; the unclean and the clean may eat of it, as of the gazelle and as of the hart.


Just as the gazelle or the hart is eaten, so you may eat of it; the unclean and the clean alike may eat of it.


These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat,


Every animal that parts the hoof and has the hoof cloven in two, and chews the cud, among the animals, you may eat.
