When the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.


And Bilhah conceived and bore Jacob a son.


Then they journeyed from Bethel; and when they were still some distance from Ephrath, Rachel travailed, and she had hard labor.


And as her soul was departing (for she died), she called his name Ben-oni; but his father called his name Benjamin.


Abraham was the father of Isaac. The sons of Isaac: Esau and Israel.


Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers,


Moses gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man upon the sabbath.


“Brethren, I may say to you confidently of the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.


How then was it reckoned to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.


To give a human example, brethren: no one annuls even a man's will, or adds to it, once it has been ratified.


This is what I mean: the law, which came four hundred and thirty years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.


See how great he is! Abraham the patriarch gave him a tithe of the spoils.
