Thence he removed to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.


He called the name of that place Bethel; but the name of the city was Luz at the first.


And he set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.


And in the hill country, Shamir, Jattir, Socoh,


The allotment of the descendants of Joseph went from the Jordan by Jericho, east of the waters of Jericho, into the wilderness, going up from Jericho into the hill country to Bethel;


then going from Bethel to Luz, it passes along to Ataroth, the territory of the Archites;


together with all the villages round about these cities as far as Baalath-beer, Ramah of the Negeb. This was the inheritance of the tribe of Simeon according to its families.
