for there must be factions among you in order that those who are genuine among you may be recognized.


And of Levi he said, “Give to Levi thy Thummim, and thy Urim to thy godly one, whom thou didst test at Massah, with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah;


And you shall remember all the way which the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not.


that by them I may test Israel, whether they will take care to walk in the way of the Lord as their fathers did, or not.”


Now these are the nations which the Lord left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had no experience of any war in Canaan;
