For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as all our fathers were; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no abiding.


He will shake off his unripe grape, like the vine, and cast off his blossom, like the olive tree.


Between morning and evening they are destroyed; they perish for ever without any regarding it.


for we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, for our days on earth are a shadow.


My days are like an evening shadow; I wither away like grass.


But thou, O Lord, art enthroned for ever; thy name endures to all generations.


Because of my loud groaning my bones cleave to my flesh.


Man is like a breath, his days are like a passing shadow.
