The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, And smote down the chosen men of Israel.

The wrath of God came upon them and slew the strongest and sturdiest of them and smote down Israel's chosen youth.

When the anger of God went up against them, And slew of the fattest of them, And smote down the young men of Israel.

So God’s anger came up against them: he killed the most hearty of them; he cut down Israel’s youth in their prime.
