Unto a serpent's poison like their poison doth appear; Yea, they are like the adder deaf, that closely stops her ear;

Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: They are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear;

Their poison is like the venom of a serpent; they are like the deaf adder or asp that stops its ear,

Their venom is like a snake’s venom— like a deaf cobra’s—one that shuts its ears

For behold, they have seized my soul. The strong have rushed upon me.

For behold they have caught my soul: the mighty have rushed in upon me:

Much like unto a serpent's tongue their tongues they sharp do make; And underneath their lips there lies the poison of a snake.

Do thou with hyssop sprinkle me, I shall be cleansed so; Yea, wash thou me, and then I shall be whiter than the snow.
