He from the dust doth raise the poor, that very low doth lie; And from the dunghill lifts the man oppress'd with poverty;

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, And lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;

[The Lord] raises the poor out of the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap and the dung hill,

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, And lifteth up the needy from the dunghill;

God lifts up the poor from the dirt and raises up the needy from the garbage pile

Before the face of the Lord, the earth was moved, before the face of the God of Jacob.

At the presence of the Lord the earth was moved, at the presence of the God of Jacob:

Yet setteth he the poor on high from all his miseries, And he, much like unto a flock, doth make him families.

My strength is like a potsherd dry'd; my tongue it cleaveth fast Unto my jaws; and to the dust of death thou brought me hast.
