I lie awake; I am like a lonely bird on the housetop.


Remove your stroke from me; I am worn down by the blows of your hand.


I am silent; I do not open my mouth, for it is you who have done it.


I did not sit in the company of merrymakers, nor did I rejoice; under the weight of your hand I sat alone, for you had filled me with indignation.


The elders of daughter Zion sit on the ground in silence; they have thrown dust on their heads and put on sackcloth; the young girls of Jerusalem have bowed their heads to the ground.
