Instead, as a faithless wife leaves her husband, so you have been faithless to me, O house of Israel, says the Lord.

This is the law in cases of jealousy, when a wife, while under her husband's authority, goes astray and defiles herself,


and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’;


The woman said to him, “Sir, I see that you are a prophet.


Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man, she is not an adulteress.


Let marriage be held in honor by all, and let the marriage bed be kept undefiled; for God will judge fornicators and adulterers.


I have also acquired Ruth the Moabite, the wife of Mahlon, to be my wife, to maintain the dead man's name on his inheritance, in order that the name of the dead may not be cut off from his kindred and from the gate of his native place; today you are witnesses.”
