Joseph named the firstborn Manasseh, “For,” he said, “God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father's house.”


I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”


or darkness so that you cannot see; a flood of water covers you.


My companions are treacherous like a torrent-bed, like freshets that pass away,


let them drink and forget their poverty, and remember their misery no more.


For they will scarcely brood over the days of their lives, because God keeps them occupied with the joy of their hearts.


Do not fear, for you will not be ashamed; do not be discouraged, for you will not suffer disgrace; for you will forget the shame of your youth, and the disgrace of your widowhood you will remember no more.


This is like the days of Noah to me: Just as I swore that the waters of Noah would never again go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you and will not rebuke you.


Then whoever invokes a blessing in the land shall bless by the God of faithfulness, and whoever takes an oath in the land shall swear by the God of faithfulness; because the former troubles are forgotten and are hidden from my sight.


When a woman is in labor, she has pain, because her hour has come. But when her child is born, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy of having brought a human being into the world.
