Then David's anger was greatly kindled against the man. He said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves to die;


Then the king said to Joab, “Very well, I grant this; go, bring back the young man Absalom.”


is vanity, since the same fate comes to all, to the righteous and the wicked, to the good and the evil, to the clean and the unclean, to those who sacrifice and those who do not sacrifice. As are the good, so are the sinners; those who swear are like those who shun an oath.


Now Saul committed a very rash act on that day. He had laid an oath on the troops, saying, “Cursed be anyone who eats food before it is evening and I have been avenged on my enemies.” So none of the troops tasted food.


He said to all Israel, “You shall be on one side, and I and my son Jonathan will be on the other side.” The people said to Saul, “Do what seems good to you.”


Saul said, “God do so to me and more also; you shall surely die, Jonathan!”


Saul heeded the voice of Jonathan; Saul swore, “As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death.”


For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the earth, neither you nor your kingdom shall be established. Now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.”


The king said, “You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father's house.”


But Saul swore to her by the Lord, “As the Lord lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.”
