It pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this.


All Israel heard of the judgment that the king had rendered; and they stood in awe of the king, because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him, to execute justice.


Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, able to discern between good and evil; for who can govern this your great people?”


God answered Solomon, “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked for possessions, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you, and have not even asked for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself that you may rule my people over whom I have made you king,


There are many who say, “O that we might see some good! Let the light of your face shine on us, O Lord!”


Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.


And you, do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for I am going to bring disaster upon all flesh, says the Lord; but I will give you your life as a prize of war in every place to which you may go.”


Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.
