Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites,


And quarrelling arose between Abram’s herdsmen and Lot’s. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land at that time.


After Jacob came from Paddan Aram, he arrived safely at the city of Shechem in Canaan and camped within sight of the city.


When Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, the ruler of that area, saw her, he took her and raped her.


Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, ‘You have brought trouble on me by making me obnoxious to the Canaanites and Perizzites, the people living in this land. We are few in number, and if they join forces against me and attack me, I and my household will be destroyed.’


So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had and the rings in their ears, and Jacob buried them under the oak at Shechem.


Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had gone there to make him king.


Then Jeroboam fortified Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim and lived there. From there he went out and built up Peniel.
