‘Go and look towards the sea,’ he told his servant. And he went up and looked. ‘There is nothing there,’ he said. Seven times Elijah said, ‘Go back.’


Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there,


But Jehoshaphat asked, ‘Is there no prophet of the Lord here, through whom we may enquire of the Lord?’ An officer of the king of Israel answered, ‘Elisha son of Shaphat is here. He used to pour water on the hands of Elijah.’


One day when Elisha came, he went up to his room and lay down there.


Elisha said to him, ‘Tell her, “You have gone to all this trouble for us. Now what can be done for you? Can we speak on your behalf to the king or the commander of the army?” ’ She replied, ‘I have a home among my own people.’


When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their helper.
