And Jacob called the name of the place Peni´el: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.


And as he passed over Penu´el the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.


And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.


No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.


These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.


and ye said, Behold, the Lord our God hath showed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the midst of the fire: we have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth.


For who is there of all flesh, that hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we have, and lived?


(I stood between the Lord and you at that time, to show you the word of the Lord: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount,) saying,
