And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ra´moth–gil´e-ad, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliver it into the king's hand.


So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micai´ah, shall we go against Ra´moth–gil´e-ad to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.


and say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.


So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.


Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ra´moth–gil´e-ad to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.


The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.


Then the Lord said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.


Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you; they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the Lord.


And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedeki´ah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hanani´ah the son of Azur the prophet, which was of Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of the Lord, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,


Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hanani´ah the prophet, Hear now, Hanani´ah; The Lord hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.


Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.


Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the Lord concerning Shemai´ah the Nehel´amite; Because that Shemai´ah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:


For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.


Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?


the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?


Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity, to turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of banishment.


Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The Lord saith it; albeit I have not spoken?


And it shall be unto them as a false divination in their sight, to them that have sworn oaths: but he will call to remembrance the iniquity, that they may be taken.


while they see vanity unto thee, while they divine a lie unto thee, to bring thee upon the necks of them that are slain, of the wicked, whose day is come, when their iniquity shall have an end.


And her prophets have daubed them with untempered mortar, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord God, when the Lord hath not spoken.


For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.


for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.


And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:


For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
