Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.


And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist; some, Eli´jah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.


In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,


And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad;) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him.


And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Eli´jah; and others, One of the prophets.


Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead;


And many resorted unto him and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true.
