And as David and his men went by the way, Shim´e-i went along on the hillside over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.


And when king David came to Bahu´rim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shim´e-i, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.


Then said Ab´ishai the son of Zeru-i´ah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.


Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.


Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.


The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.


And he said unto his men, The Lord forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the Lord's anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.


And David said to Ab´ishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the Lord's anointed, and be guiltless?
