Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbor, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.


The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon:


Then Adoni´jah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.


Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.


When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.


Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.


He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.

And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.
