And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the LORD. So they had him ride in his chariot.


And when you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you: yea, when you make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.


Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say, How have we robbed you? In tithes and offerings.


But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as a heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.


And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.


For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.


Take heed that you give not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise you have no reward of your Father who is in heaven.


Moreover when you fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.


And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.


Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples fast not?


But woe unto you, Pharisees! for you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over justice and the love of God: these ought you to have done, and not to leave the other undone.


So likewise you, when you shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.


Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.


That no flesh should glory in his presence.


And advanced in the Jews' religion above many of my equals in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.


Not of works, lest any man should boast.


For bodily exercise profits for a little while: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
