And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray you, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.
And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, and arose, and got him home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulcher of his father.
Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the ruler of my people, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father, I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears: behold, I will heal you: on the third day you shall go up unto the house of the LORD.
You shall make your prayer unto him, and he shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows.
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.
Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, you shall purge them away.
Then shall you call, and the LORD shall answer; you shall cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If you take away from the midst of you the yoke, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness;
And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.
Call unto me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you know not.
And I knew that you hear me always: but because of the people who stand by I said it, that they may believe that you have sent me.
And said, Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Your prayers and your alms are come up for a memorial before God.
