Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion: the same is the city of David.


So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built all around from Millo inward.


And this was the reason that he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father.


And Solomon made a treaty with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.


And his house where he dwelt had another court inside the porch, which was of like workmanship. Solomon made also a house for Pharaoh’s daughter, whom he had taken as his wife, like unto this porch.


Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall outside, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.


And Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the city of David unto the house that he had built for her: for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places are holy, to which the ark of the LORD has come.
