A thorn going up into the hand of a drunkard, a parable in the mouth of the foolish.

As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.

Like a thorn that goes [without being felt] into the hand of a drunken man, so is a proverb in the mouth of a [self-confident] fool.

As a thorn that goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.

Like a thorny bush in the hand of a drunk, so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.

In the manner of a thorn, if it were to spring up from the hand of a drunkard, so also is a parable in the mouth of the foolish.

As if a thorn should grow in the hand of a drunkard: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

They struck me, I was not pained; they beat me, I knew not: when shall I awake? I will add, I will yet seek it.
