The servants told David, “Uriah did not go home.” Then David said to Uriah, “You came from a long trip. Why did you not go home?”
Then David called Uriah to come and see him. Uriah ate and drank with David. David got him drunk, but Uriah still did not go home. That evening, Uriah again slept at the palace with the rest of the king’s servants.
King Rehoboam made more shields to put in their places, but they were made from bronze. He gave them to the guards on duty at the palace gates.
Every time the king went to the Lord’s Temple, the guards took out the shields and went with him. After they were finished, they put the shields back on the wall in the guardroom.
There is no one wise enough to make a plan that can succeed if the Lord is against it.
