Thus says the Lord GOD: This shall be the border, by which you shall divide the land for inheritance according to the twelve tribes of Yisra'el: Yosef [shall have two] portions.
For the children of Yosef were two tribes, Menasheh and Efrayim: and they gave no portion to the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with the suburbs of it for their livestock and for their substance.
The border of the children of Efrayim according to their families was [thus]: the border of their inheritance eastward was `Atarot-Addar, to Beit-Choron the upper;
The children of Yosef spoke to Yehoshua, saying, Why have you given me but one lot and one part for an inheritance, seeing I am a great people, because hitherto the LORD has blessed me?
They shall divide it into seven portions: Yehudah shall abide in his border on the south, and the house of Yosef shall abide in their border on the north.
