Their inward thought is that their houses will endure forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves.


*Behold, this is the man who didn't make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.*


*Because you have said, 'We have made a covenant with death, and with She'ol are we in agreement. When the overflowing scourge passes through, it won't come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and we have hidden ourselves under falsehood.'*


Woe to those who join house to house, who lay field to field, until there is no room, and you are made to dwell alone in the midst of the land!


As the partridge that sits on [eggs] which she has not laid, so is he who gets riches, and not by right; in the midst of his days they shall leave him, and at his end he shall be a fool.


Inhabitant of Levanon, who makes your nest in the cedars, how greatly to be pitied shall you be when pangs come on you, the pain as of a woman in travail!


As for your terror, the pride of your heart has deceived you, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill: though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there, says the LORD.


You who dwell on many waters, abundant in treasures, your end is come, the measure of your covetousness.

Though you mount on high as the eagle, and though your nest is set among the stars, I will bring you down from there,* says the LORD.


Woe to them! For they went in the way of Kayin, and ran riotously in the error of Bil`am for hire, and perished in Korach's rebellion.
