Chilkiyah the Kohen Gadol said to Shafan the scribe, I have found the scroll of the Torah in the house of the LORD. Chilkiyah delivered the book to Shafan, and he read it.
The captain of the guard took Serayah the chief Kohen, and Tzefanyah the second Kohen, and the three keepers of the threshold:
and `Azaryah the son of Chilkiyah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Tzadok, the son of Merayot, the son of Achituv, the ruler of the house of God;
Chilkiyah answered Shafan the scribe, I have found the scroll of the Torah in the house of the LORD. Chilkiyah delivered the book to Shafan.
They came to Chilkiyah the Kohen Gadol, and delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered of the hand of Menasheh and Efrayim, and of all the remnant of Yisra'el, and of all Yehudah and Binyamin, and of the inhabitants of Yerushalayim.
In the days of Artachshasta wrote Bishlam, Mitredat, Tav'el, and the rest of his companions, to Artachshasta king of Paras; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian [character], and set forth in the Syrian [language].
The Jewish elders built and prospered, through the prophesying of Chaggai the prophet and Zekharyah the son of `Iddo. They built and finished it, according to the mitzvah of the God of Yisra'el, and according to the decree of Koresh, and Daryavesh, and Artachshasta king of Paras.
For Ezra had set his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Yisra'el statutes and ordinances.

I, even I Artachshasta the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers who are beyond the River, that whatever Ezra the Kohen, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done with all diligence,

It happened in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artachshasta the king, when wine was before him, that I took up the wine, and gave it to the king. Now I had not been [before] sad in his presence.
All the people gathered themselves together as one man into the broad place that was before the water gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the scroll of the Torah of Moshe, which the LORD had commanded to Yisra'el.
