All the souls who came out of Ya`akov's body were seventy souls, and Yosef was in Egypt already.
The LORD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain. The LORD called Moshe to the top of the mountain, and Moshe went up.
The LORD said to him, *Go down and you shall bring Aharon up with you, but don't let the Kohanim and the people break through to come up to the LORD, lest he break forth on them.*
The LORD said to Moshe, *Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.* Moshe told the words of the people to the LORD.
The people stayed at a distance, and Moshe drew near to the thick darkness where God was.
Moshe alone shall come near to the LORD, but they shall not come near, neither shall the people go up with him.*
Then Moshe, Aharon, Nadav, Avihu, and seventy of the elders of Yisra'el went up.
*Bring Aharon your brother, and his sons with him, near to you from among the children of Yisra'el, that he may minister to me in the Kohen's office, even Aharon, Nadav and Avihu, El`azar and Itamar, Aharon's sons.
He said, *Don't come close. Take your sandals off of your feet, for the place you are standing on is holy ground.*
Be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mountain.
Aharon took Elisheva, the daughter of `Amminadav, the sister of Nachshon, as his wife; and she bore him Nadav and Avihu, El`azar and Itamar.
There stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Yisra'el; and in the midst of them stood Ya`azanyah the son of Shafan, every man with his censer in his hand; and the odor of the cloud of incense went up.
The LORD said to Moshe, Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Yisra'el, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you.
Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy others, and sent them two by two ahead of him into every city and place, where he was about to come.
The seventy returned with joy, saying, *Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!*
So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers, according to your tribes.
