that the triumphing of the wicked is short, the joy of the godless but for a moment?


He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy.


The king of Bavel has heard the news of them, and his hands wax feeble: anguish has taken hold of him, [and] pangs as of a woman in travail.


While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from the sky, [saying], O king Nevukhadnetzar 1, to you it is spoken: The kingdom is departed from you:


The same hour was the thing fulfilled on Nevukhadnetzar 1: and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky, until his hair was grown like eagles' [feathers], and his nails like birds' [claws].


Now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known to me the interpretation of it; but they could not show the interpretation of the thing.


They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.


Then the king's face was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him; and the joints of his thighs were loosened, and his knees struck one against another.


Then came in all the king's wise men; but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation.
