When David rose up in the morning, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,


He struck Mo'av, and measured them with the line, making them to lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death, and one full line to keep alive. The Mo`avim became servants to David, and brought tribute.


David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Pelishtim was then in Beit-Lechem.


There came of the children of Binyamin and Yehudah to the stronghold to David.


The LORD spoke to Gad, David's seer, saying,


Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Shemu'el the seer, and in the history of Natan the prophet, and in the history of Gad the seer,


He set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the mitzvah of David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Natan the prophet; for the mitzvah was of the LORD by his prophets.


I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there that, being such as I, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.


But when they persecute you in this city, flee into the next, for most certainly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Yisra'el, until the Son of Man has come.


David went there to Mitzpeh of Mo'av: and he said to the king of Mo'av, Please let my father and my mother come forth, [and be] with you, until I know what God will do for me.


The prophet Gad said to David, Don't stay in the stronghold; depart, and get you into the land of Yehudah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Cheret.
