Again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Yisra'el, and he moved David against them, saying, Go, number Yisra'el and Yehudah.


I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;


However I will not tear away all the kingdom; but I will give one tribe to your son, for David my servant's sake, and for Yerushalayim's sake which I have chosen.


For it happened, when David was in Edom, and Yo'av the captain of the army was gone up to bury the slain, and had struck every male in Edom


God raised up [another] adversary to him, Rezon the son of Elyada, who had fled from his lord Hadad`ezer king of Tzovah.


So the king didn't listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about of the LORD, that he might establish his word, which the LORD spoke by Achiyah the Shiloni to Yarov`am the son of Nevat.


The God of Yisra'el stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Ashur, and the spirit of Tilgat-Pilne'eser king of Ashur, and he carried them away, even the Re'uveni, and the Gadi, and the half-tribe of Menasheh, and brought them to Chalach, and Chavor, and Hara, and to the river of Gozan, to this day.


The LORD of Armies will stir up a scourge against him, as in the slaughter of Midyan at the rock of `Orev. His rod will be over the sea, and he will lift it up like he did against Egypt.


Alas Ashur, the rod of my anger, the staff in whose hand is my indignation!


Behold, I will stir up the Madai against them, who will not value silver, and as for gold, they will not delight in it.


Edom shall be a possession. Se`ir, his enemies, also shall be a possession, while Yisra'el does valiantly.


Now therefore, please let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it be the LORD that has stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering: but if it be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD: for they have driven me out this day that I shouldn't cling to the LORD's inheritance, saying, Go, serve other gods.
