The LORD raised up an adversary to Shlomo, Chadad the Edomite: he was of the king's seed in Edom.
(but he shall have one tribe, for my servant David's sake and for Yerushalayim's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Yisra'el);
But as for the children of Yisra'el who lived in the cities of Yehudah, Rechav`am reigned over them.
It happened, when all Yisra'el heard that Yarov`am was returned, that they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Yisra'el: there was none who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Yehudah only.
that your eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which you have said, My name shall be there; to listen to the prayer which your servant shall pray toward this place.
But the LORD was gracious to them, and had compassion on them, and had respect to them, because of his covenant with Avraham, Yitzchak, and Ya`akov, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.
Therefore the LORD was very angry with Yisra'el, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Yehudah only.
For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake, and for my servant David's sake.
He built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Yerushalayim will I put my name.
The LORD said, I will remove Yehudah also out of my sight, as I have removed Yisra'el, and I will cast off this city which I have chosen, even Yerushalayim, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.
However the LORD would not destroy Yehudah, for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give to him a lamp for his children always.
However the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a lamp to him and to his children always.
There I will make the horn of David to bud. I have ordained a lamp for my anointed.
Lord, where are your former loving kindnesses, which you swore to David in your faithfulness?
What will they answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD has founded Tziyon, and in her the afflicted of his people will take refuge.
For Tziyon's sake will I not hold my shalom, and for Yerushalayim's sake I will not rest, until her righteousness go forth as brightness, and her yeshu`ah as a lamp that burns.
and give him no rest, until he establishes, and until he makes Yerushalayim a praise in the earth.
Of the increase of his government and of shalom there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of Armies will perform this.
then it shall happen that to the place which the LORD your God shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, there shall you bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the wave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which you vow to the LORD.
But to the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes, to put his name there, even to his habitation shall you seek, and there you shall come;
Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD your God does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Avraham, to Yitzchak, and to Ya`akov.
