The three sons of Tzeru'yah were there, Yo'av, and Avishai, and `Asa'el: and `Asa'el was as light of foot as a wild gazelle.
Now Yo'av was over all the army of Yisra'el; and Benayah the son of Yehoiada was over the Kereti and over the Peleti;
When Aviner was returned to Chevron, Yo'av took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and struck him there in the body, so that he died, for the blood of `Asa'el his brother.

The inhabitants of Yevus said to David, You shall not come in here. Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Tziyon; the same is the city of David.
David lived in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David.
Yo'av the son of Tzeru'yah was over the army; and Yehoshafat the son of Achilud was recorder;
and after Achitofel was Yehoiada the son of Benayah, and Avyatar: and the captain of the king's army was Yo'av.
The men of Yisra'el said, Have you seen this man who is come up? surely to defy Yisra'el is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who kills him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Yisra'el.
