Peter followed Jesus, but he did not come near Jesus. Peter followed Jesus to the yard of the high priest’s house. He went in and sat with the guards. Peter wanted to see what would happen to Jesus.


The next day the soldiers were very upset. They wondered what happened to Peter.


The men said, “The jail was closed and locked. The guards were standing at the doors. But when we opened the doors, the jail was empty!”


Then the captain and his men went out and brought the apostles back. But the soldiers did not use force, because they were afraid of the people. The soldiers were afraid that the people would \{become angry and\} kill them (the soldiers) with rocks.
