He that trusteth in his own heart, is a fool: but he that walketh wisely, he shall be saved.
I know, O Lord, that the way of a man is not his: neither is it in a man to walk and to direct his steps.
The heart is perverse above all things and unsearchable. Who can know it?
And Jesus answering, said: You know not what you ask. Can you drink the chalice that I shall drink? They say to him: We can.
But Peter saith to him: Although all shall be scandalized in thee, yet not I.
But he spoke the more vehemently: Although I should die together with thee, I will not deny thee. And in like manner also said they all.
And he said: I say to thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, till thou thrice deniest that thou knowest me. And he said to them:
Jesus answered him: Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Amen, amen I say to thee, the cock shall not crow, till thou deny me thrice.
Then Paul answered, and said: What do you mean weeping and afflicting my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but to die also in Jerusalem, for the name of the Lord Jesus.
