But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused the prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and there was no remedy.


Thy own mouth shall condemn thee, and not I: and thy own lips shall answer thee.


who troublest the depth of the sea, the noise of its waves. The Gentiles shall be troubled,


And you say: Why hath not the son borne the iniquity of his father? Verily, because the son hath wrought judgment and justice, hath kept all my commandments and done them, living, he shall live.


Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; because you are like to whited sepulchres, which outwardly appear to men beautiful, but within are full of dead men's bones, and of all filthiness.


Wherefore you are witnesses against yourselves, that you are the sons of them that killed the prophets.


Woe to you who build the monuments of the prophets: and your fathers killed them.


For this cause also the wisdom of God said: I will send to them prophets and apostles; and some of them they will kill and persecute.


Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things, are worthy of death; and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them.


Take, my brethren, for an example of suffering evil, of labour and patience, the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord.
