And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the forest: and they laid an exceeding great heap of stones upon him. But all Israel fled to their own dwellings.


And they buried them with the bones of Saul, and of Jonathan his son in the land of Benjamin, in the side, in the sepulchre of Cis his father. And they did all that the king had commanded: and God shewed mercy again to the land after these things.


Now therefore I have a mind that we make a covenant with the Lord the God of Israel: and he will turn away the wrath of his indignation from us.


Let rulers be appointed in all the multitude. And in all our cities, let them that have taken strange wives come at the times appointed, and with them the ancients and the judges of every city, until the wrath of our God be turned away from us for this sin.


Give joy to the soul of thy servant, for to thee, O Lord, I have lifted up my soul.

And he hung the king thereof on a gibbet until the evening and the going down of the sun. Then Josue commanded, and they took down his carcass from the gibbet: and threw it in the very entrance of the city, heaping upon it a great heap of stones, which remaineth until this present day.
